People full of love and light that naturally just gift it off to anyone and everyone in their presence is hard to come by but as of lately i've been blessed to be stepping passed the heights and further down into Union City, North Bergen NJ area and have been finding the purest of souls , and while doing so i've found myself crossing paths with you, Onelovian.
Who is Onelovian?
Originally I was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I crossed the frontera &immigrated to NJ in '97 &been living here since. Onelovian came from my tag One-Oh-Vee-Three (1OV3). I had just met Ki Bohiti, Grizz, Khaliq the Navigator &Mr. Abillity in the winter of 2012 &was inspired by their contributions to the culture. I found myself heavily influenced by their creative work within the community &couldn't help but want to get creative myself. At first I was just documenting my experiences, but as I honed my craft I began to realize there was a unique perspective that I was capturing on film that I really wasn't seeing anywhere else at the time.
What do you do?
I kinda do it all really. I'm low-key with a lot that i do. A lot of people don't know this but i have a album out on vinyl (Gods Of the Hologram), I've published a book with Sessions at The PM, &curate art shows by the way of the New School of Love. but mainly I'm focused on visual arts currently.
How long have you been shooting film and what camera do you use?
I been shooting film since 2014. I use different cameras like an Olympus point&shoot that i found for $2. Nikon fg, nikon em, canon a1, canon ae1, visitor ef35, whatever i can get my hands on really. Its really not about the camera it's about your eyes.
What is your favorite thing about shooting film?
I don't know how to explain this but photography on film feels more real. The colors are present. The light is present. The shadows are present. On digital cameras colors are coded 0001110010101 are whatever, zeros&ones, &the computer in the digital cam can only capture the colors that the cpu is limited to. On film the colors are infinite. Also I love that i can't "delete" the photos, it makes me more aware of the process &i start to see a pattern in the photos. Analog is forever.
Top 3 shows or events you had parts of in 2017?
I be at soul many shows i forget honestly. But personally, I shot with the legendary photographer Ari Marcopoulos for the Almanac. He found my album at A1 Records &reached out for a photo session. I deejayed at the Celestial Mansion for Sessions at the PM, an abandoned community center in West New York turned art gallery, it was 4 floors of freedom. &I was director of photography for Physical Graffiti's upcoming film be on the look out for that.
What do you wish to gain from your work?
I don't look to gain anything. I do this cuz i love it. The whole universe is mine.
