Some people take pride in using themselves as a form of art. When following Rebecca on Instagram i didn't fall in love with just her art, i fell in love with every look she served and how they ranged in such different styles and color schemes. There's nothing she's posted that can possibly bore you.
Who is Rbatzz?
Who I am is relative to the moment or context in that you ask. Starting with the facts, my real name is Rebecca, I’m a Pisces (born on St. Patrick’s Day☘️), and even though I’m half Filipino & half Irish, I mostly just feel like I’m not from this planet at all. I actually got the nickname “Rbatzz” from someone I hooked up with in High School. They combined my name Rebecca and my nickname Batman (for my love of Batman) and it stuck with me ever since. Past the generic facts, really all there is to me is that I’m a hopeless romantic; I’m stuck in a day dream. I’m very understanding of the reality and world I’m in, I’d just rather create and explore others.
when and how did you begin modeling?
Back then I was always the one taking pictures of my friends; it was easy to capture moments in an aesthetically pleasing manner- just not when it came to myself. Throughout high school I became more-so able to look and dress the way I pleased and was able to translate that knowledge with what I knew to look good in front of the camera. As my confidence grew, so did my amount of creative/photographer friends so I just kinda fell into it naturally.
how long have you been painting?
Painting, well, overall creating is the only constant I’ve had my whole life.
Tell me about your favorite piece you've done thus far
Throughout 2017 I worked on this mixed media, Virgin Mary-esque piece, where I took a fuckload of the cigarette butts my brother and i have flicked across my driveway over time and glued them to the piece as her crown. What i get from this piece is that your faith isn’t limited to traditional belief systems, gods and practices, but more what you consistently, and even subconsciously, indulge in or look to.
Is there anything else you do besides modeling and art?
Seeing how I’m not hyper consistent with my work in either field, of course I’m off spending my time doing other things. I host parties and events, i even DJ a few as well. Sometimes I dabble in a little behind-the-scenes casting action. I really just do anything I can that I want to.
Top 5 shoots you enjoyed this year?
1- Shooting on a yacht for Pairs Project magazine in latex, chains and a sequined cowboy hat. (Shot by @javahnspill, styled by @littlemocreep)
2- Shooting for SoundCloud with my ex as one of the other models, lol.
3- The Action Bronson “Chairman’s Intent” video shoot because the staff was hella friendly and funny. Also, because my one role was to slap someone and I may have hit them a little harder than I was trying to.
4- Shooting for the Mets/Yankees commercial/campaign. After this shoot I got arrested by some officers who were mega Mets fans and I used this shoot to get on their good side.
5- Shooting for this cool brand called Yolo4Life in Coney Island with one of my best friends Dorian @sassycilantro. We played games, but by the time we finished we only got to make it on one ride before the park closed and they wouldn’t let us get any Piña Colada’s. :(
Do a lot of brands contact you for promo, does it begin to get bothersome?
It definitely gets bothersome, but mostly because I get sidetracked and lose their instagrams in the mountains of dms I get every day or my friends steal the clothes I’m supposed to promote. You know how that cycle goes.
You and @dezordie have made some beautiful shit together, tell me about your chat about modern love in NYC
My best friend and I shot for and talked a bit to i-D talking about “modern love” because we, together and separately, are the epitome of just that. Young. Lovers. Everyone thinks love is now overtly complicated with the recent debates on gender roles and stigmas, but the simplicity in the concept of love has never faltered- love whoever you love. Why should you let a debate of “he/she/they” stop you from getting your own “we”? Mind your business and live your best life.
Your makeup looks are always pretty killer, does anything inspire that?
Thank you, my make up is just another art form used to express myself every day. Some days I channel more of my emo 7th grade self and others I try to give more of a sultry, grown kinda glam. A “be who you wanna be” kinda mindset.
Who do you think is slept on that i should check out to get an interview down with?
The list would be too long to mention everyone, I’d just go down my following because all my friends and acquaintances are talented, creative individuals.
Any advice to artists trying to get their foot in the door?
Consistency is key, be better than me. If you’re not passionate about it, you probably won’t excel in it.
